Beetroot has long been used for medicinal purposes, primarily for disorders of the liver as they help to stimulate the liver’s detoxification processes. Thanks to its rich fibre content, beetroot can help prevent constipation, but they are also one of the richest sources of glutamine, an amino acid, essential to the health and maintenance of the intestinal tract. Beetroot is recognised for its cancer fighting, anti-inflammatory properties while assisting in lowering blood pressure and reducing cholesterol levels. Beetroot is of exceptional nutritional value and is high in immune boosting vitamin C, fiber, potassium, manganese and vitamin B. If buying fresh beetroot, don’t throw away the greens! They can be cooked and enjoyed in the same way as spinach and are rich in calcium, iron and vitamins A and C.
- 1 beetroot (vacuum packed or fresh beetroot)
- 2 green apples
- 1/2 avocado
- still water – adjust to taste
In a nutribullet type blender, combine all of the ingredients
Blitz for 30 seconds or until smooth

Vary your smoothie by changing the quantity of water added. Less water creates a thicker, almost yogurt like drink, adding more water creates a more refreshing lighter drink.
